Whitley, the cuckoo’s nest, and makette

It’s been so long between posts i’m not even sure how to start this post. Much has been happening. Much work things anyway. The type of work i am doing seems to have changed in the last year or so. I’m working on bigger projects which are exciting, but take longer to eventuate. This also means i cant share them for a long time (not so good for blogging).

My second book will go to print in the next few days (all my bits are done!)… it’s titled “Home” and will be out end of October. I will soon be having a glass of celebratory champagne, but this time it will be on board a plane, as i’m off to India for 9 days tomorrow morning!! That too is work, and again something i can’t reveal for a while yet. But it’s a good one, and should be worth the wait.

In the meantime, some things i have been working on i can reveal:

WHITLEY: Even the Stars are a Mess: my good friend Whitely (AKA Lawrence Greenwood ) asked me once again to design artwork for his third release. Although he very kindly gives me complete creative reign,  i had listened to the album a whole lot while designing it, and it well and truly got inside my head, so i view this as more of a colab:

Lawrence is a musical genius, and this release proves it once again (as do the rave reviews). The album is out now through Dew Process, and is available on itunes. Also, have a look this really beautiful clip for the first single “My Heart is not a Machine” made by my also very talented brother-in-law, Johann Rashid. Lawrence and Joh went to the depths of the Amazon to film it. It was well worth it.

The Cuckoo’s Nest Exhibition: the wonderful Tai Snaith has curated this all female group show at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, which includes works by: Lucy James, Dell Stewart, Ellequa Martin, Siri Hayes, myself and Kate and Jessie Tucker. It’s quite a scary line up as they are all proper artists – not sure what i am doing in the mix. Needless to say i feel pretty honoured. For my pieces i put together some geometric birdhouses (with some help from woodworker Tim). Here is a sneak preview taken during the not quite finished install today:

“The Cuckoo’s Nest” at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts – 26 Acland St, St Kilda. Opens Friday 12th of July (from 6pm) and runs til August 11th. More details and sneak previews here.

Makette: This is not really something i have been working on, but it is something i contributing to. Makette is an exhibition about subject close to my heart – side projects. It features 8 designers (me being one) and will show some of their side projects as well as video interviews and detailed insights into the process of making and creating side-projects (lines are becoming very blurred for me these days!).

Makette-Invite

Makette opens Wednesday 10th July at Design Institute Australia Gallery, Level 1, 175 Collins St, Melbourne. The exhibition runs until the 31st July. More info on the Makette website.

Also, i have much to say about this blog. Many peeps i know have been commenting about my lack of posts lately. I have been thinking about it too, not just about my blog, but about blogging in general. But i will write about that on my return.

That’s it from me for now. I got a suitcase to pack xx

  1. I am so envious of your trip to India and cannot wait to see what you are up to over there! Your blog is one of the first things I check almost daily – I hope you don’t give it up! x

Really lovely album cover – you do very nice hands! I envy the ‘complete creative reign’ bit. Haven’t landed a job like that in a long time! I love your blog, but I think you should blog only when and if you feel the inclination to do so. You wear many hats, and have enough pressure methinks. A time lapse makes for much richer, juicier posts anyway. Have a ball in India!
