giveaways – arrietty and the cranky bear

yes – it’s another giveaway! this time, i have kids in mind.

arrietty

first studio ghibli’s new movie “arrietty”. i can’t quite describe my love for studio ghibli. the ins and outs and dark-sides and light-sides of their animation provides me with endless inspiration. ‘my neighbor totoro‘ and ‘spirited away‘ are two of my long-standing favourite movies, and visiting the ghibli museum in tokyo was definitely one of my favourite travel experiences to date (that place is THE BEST!). and today, thanks again to madman, i have 5 family passes (2 adults, 2 children) to the new studio ghibli film arrietty, based on the children’s classic “the borrowers” (you can watch the trailer here). i have neither read the borrowers, nor have i seen the movie. but, regardless, i know this movie will be nothing less than a delightful visual feast, and can’t wait to see it.

cranky_1

second – “the cranky bear” ipad app. now – this whole ipad thing is pretty new to me. we brought one as family christmas present in an effort to get the kids off our computers. in retrospect, this has not worked as well as we hoped, and we should have just brought them their own computer (although that just feels a tad excessive). but i must say i do love the ipad (especially the ebay app – that little chime when you have been outbid on something is genius).

amoungst the pages of game apps, i’ve been trying to encourage some reading type app’s too – and the cranky bear (written and illustrated by nick bland) has recently been developed into a super good one. along with all the bells and whistles that an ipad can bring to a picture book (animation, narration, interaction etc), it also features the voice of angus sampson as the cranky bear. you can check it out a sample here. thanks to my dear friend nat at wheelbarrow i have 2 free download’s of this to give away as well.

so – how am i going to do this double giveaway? if you are interested, just enter as per usual by leaving a comment, but please state if you would like to be in the draw for both or if not specify which one. also, please note – the movie passes are valid for australia only, but the download is available internationally. oh and the giveaway will close 5pm sunday, and winners notified soon after that. gosh hope that’s not all too confusing.

happy friday!

* Giveaway is now closed! thanks for those who entered! winners notified shortly

  1. iPad app!

i’d like to see the movie too as i’m a big ghibli fan as well but i’m assuming that’s a more local giveaway. :)

  2. ooh, i want to go see “arrietty”. i’ll kidnap your children and take them too!

  3. rosa says:

thank you beci – in total agreement with you about the studio ghibli creations – we would just love a family pass to see their latest. Also very curious about ‘the very cranky bear’ as have been totally wowed by the book app for i-pads “the fantastic flying books of Mr Morris Lessmore”….have you seen this yet? if not you MUST look. If only to justify buying an i-pad for your boys :) …..So i’m wondering if ‘cranky bear’ might be in the same vein and if so, i’m in for that too!
    Thanks for the opportunity.

  4. Louie says:

Our youngest one loves my iphone for reading her book apps – and I love drinking my coffee in peace! Win, Win! The Very Cranky Bear is a favourite in our house – will check out the app now too. xLx

  7. Kat says:

I love ghibli too! totoro is still one of my favourite movies of all time (especially when he flies away with the umbrella) so I would love a pass to Arriety!

  8. Saskia says:

Saw Arrietty and it’s so beautiful. Very quiet, and classic Ghibli. Love to be in the draw for the cranky bear though. Thanks! Oh, and if you can find the Borrowers on DVD it’s really ace, a family favourite around here. It’s brash, loud and in your face – the complete opposite to Arrietty; but just as magical in its’ own way. Cheers.

  9. Rebecca says:

Hi Beci, I would love to put my family in the running to be able to see Arrietty! Totoro and Ponyo are my daughters favourite movies – she even has a totoro bag that she carries her Panda Pamela around in. Made the mistake of showing her Go Panda Go though – pretty bad scene of a dog biting the head of a Panda!
