if you happened to walk past our house 2 friday’s ago, chances are you heard wagner’s tristan and isolde blaring from my studio. and possibly saw me staring off into space, completely pre-occupied and unable to concentrate on anything for more than 10 minutes. this is because on the thursday night before, i was lucky enough to attend a preview for lars von trier’s melancholia. it affected me greatly and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
i don’t have words to describe how amazing this movie is. well, ok, a few – traumatic. exquisite. moving. mesmerising. painful. disastrous. brilliant. but above all, it’s pure visual beauty.
yes, i might have a slight crush on kirsten dunst, some deep-seeded curious obsessions/fantasies about the end of the world, and a tendency to be over enthusiastic about new things – all which probably contribute to melancholia pushing other movies aside, and taking number one of my favourite movies ever list. for real.
