thanks to madman, i have 5 double passes to giveaway to the bill cunningham new york documentary. YES! i love giveaways. and i loved this film too. way before his time, bill has been obsessed by documenting fashion on the street since the 1960’s. when i ran a clothing label i had a definite love/hate with the fashion industry, and i positioned myself on the periphery, but this film shows some of the parts that i did like about fashion – the street aspect to it – that expensive labels are not necessarily required to create great personal style. to quote bill himself “i’m not interested in celebrities with free dresses, i’m interested in clothes“. he is also so dedicated to what he does it hurts, and also very modest and seemingly lovely as well. if you need a bit more of a teaser, see the trailer here.

I myself struggle with this idea of elite fashion and being able to afford it in order to look good. I’ve been thinking a lot about it recently, and I love that this documentary exists,i think it’ll be an inspiring watch right when I need that extra push.
