Unless you live in Melbourne, or happen to be visiting, apologies in advance - this post is all about things that are happening here in my home town now and in near future. And man are there are a lot of them (enough to warrant a blog post – which is pretty big for me these days):
RITTENHOUSE SALE: A sale from one of my Australian favourite labels Rittenhouse. It actually started today at 10am, and continues until 7pm tonight, and then 10am-5pm tomorrow as well. 27-29 Johnston st, Collingwood (just near Smith st). While you are there you could even pop around to Shop Ramen for lunch (veg ramen and salted caramel coconut milkshake where have you been all my life?).
MISHA HOLLENBACH AT UTOPIAN SLUMPS: You most likely know i am a long time fan of Misha’s work, but i am particularly excited for this show, titled A.T.G.S. Opening Saturday 24th August 4-6pm, and runs until September 14. Utopian Slumps – Ground floor, 33 Guilford lane, Melbourne. More info here. If you are in the city you could also catch the last weekend of Martin Bell‘s exhibition titled “Skull Gully II” at Tolarno Galleries, and have your mind blown by his insane drawing skills. Level 4, 104 Exhibtion st, Melbourne, until Saturday 24th August.
SLUMBER PARTY AT LAMINGTON DRIVE: Lamington Drive have (once again) put together a truly great thing – for the past month they have had 4 super cute and equally as awesome illustrators in residence. They are Ashley Ronning, Emi Ueoka, Sarah Mcneil and Sophie Blackhall-Cain. they are celebrating the end of the residency with an exhibition, where you can ‘ohh and ahh‘ over the brilliant work they have been producing for the last month. I had a little sneak peek half way through and it’s definitely going to be one of my favourite shows this year! ‘Slumber Party’ opens Thursday 29th August 6-9, and continues until August 31st (get in quick!). More deets here. Lamington Drive, 15-25 Keele St, Collingwood. Above images from top: Emi, Ashley, Sophie and Sarah (Sarah also makes best zines – here).
POP AND SCOTT WELCOME SPRING SALE: Yes another sale – this time think hand-made furniture and beautifully painted pot plants, as well as quilts, cushions, lighting and other nice things made by their talented freinds. You can also sticky beak the newly expanded Pop and Scott workshop and studios while you are there. Taco Truck will be there for lunch too. Saturday 31st August, 9am-5pm, 27A Hayes st, Northcote.
CAKE WINES POP UP BAR: As you might spot above, i designed a label for these folks a little while back. they also gerneously sponsered many events for me. and now Cake Wines have been holding their very first stand alone event in Melbourne, teaming up with organisations such as 3RRR, Next Wave and Dumbo Feather for month of screenings, talks, music and other goings on (it’s actually been running for the whole of August – johnny-come-lately i know). See what’s going on for the last week at the Cake Wines pop-up here (my pick is Wax o’ Paradiso on Saturday night). 83 Kerr st, Fitzroy, until August 31st.
EVEN MORE THINGS:
- Emily Green and Victoria Mason “Strength in Numbers” exhibition.
- Sunday Morning Designs open studio
Enjoy your weekend where ever you are!
